Position:              Coordinator of Transitional Housing and Outreach Services

Background:

The Coordinator of Transitional Housing and Outreach Services provides operational oversight and coordination for Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre’s homelessness, transitional housing, outreach services including Amoowigamig. This role integrates Indigenous ways of knowing and being into all practices, emphasizing journey navigation by walking alongside relatives and supporting their self-directed and co-created pathways. The coordinator ensures programs are culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and responsive to the complex needs of Indigenous individuals experiencing poverty, food insecurity, and housing challenges. The incumbent will supervise four programs.

Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • A degree in Social Work, Community Development, or a related field is preferred; significant lived experience and demonstrated expertise will also be considered.
  • At least three years of experience in program coordination, particularly in housing, homelessness, and outreach support services.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and ways of knowing, with a commitment to integrating these into practices.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction strategies, and housing-first principles.

  • Expertise in conflict resolution, de-escalation, and managing complex interpersonal dynamics.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and walk alongside relatives and staff in their journeys.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills to oversee multiple programs effectively.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to respond effectively and positively in diverse relationships.
  • Experience in working with community structures and resources.
  • Possess a good understanding of community capacity building models of practice.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of social issues affecting urban Indigenous people.
