The Children’s Legacy Fund was established in 1984, when the Children’s Aid Society closed. Parents with children in care had their child tax benefit held in trust and when the Children’s Aid Society dissolved, the Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre was one of several organizations that received a one-time payment.
The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre invested their $166,000 portion and created the Children’s Legacy Fund to support Indigenous families each year.
The Children’s Legacy Fund Board of Directors is appointed by the Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre Board of Directors, and assumes responsibility for overseeing the investment and distribution of funds.
