Position: Caring for our Relatives Youth Home Support

Classification: One Year (1) Full Time Term

Location: Headingley Ma Mawi Administration Office

Salary: Subject to Qualifications

Background:

The Caring for our Relatives Youth Home Support is responsible for Leadership, oversight and accountability in the operation and continued development of the Centre’s youth home placements programs to meet the needs of children and families.  Under the supervision of the Caring for Our Relatives Coordinator, the Caring for our Relatives Support is responsible for supporting the Caring for our Relatives programs by providing leadership, support and accountability in the operation and continued development of the Centre’s Youth Homes, and Child Development Centre.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Assisting and support in program planning and development by supporting development of work plans, activities, and educational promotional materials;
  • Promoting the programs in the community including requests for presentations and collaborating with sister organizations;
  • Support development of internal policies, procedures and reporting mechanisms; Assist in specific program policy/procedure and service mapping development;
  • Staff scheduling assistance;
  • Annual licensing review support;
  • Coordination/support of contract activities;
  • Monitor bed usage and timely intakes (empty bed policy implementation) for Youth and Care Homes including monthly attendance tracking;
  • Support efforts to expand the services provided by youth homes and improved integration with other services provided by Ma Mawi;
  • Develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with managers, supervisors and direct service workers of the Child and Family placing agencies and other community collaterals.
  • Develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships within the Centre and with Team Leads, Program Coordinators, Direct Service Providers, Care Providers, families and children and youth, where applicable.
  • Maintaining confidentiality, as specified in the Child and Family Services Act, with respect to children, families and agencies involved with the Centre’s Care Home Programs.
  • Act on Behalf of the Caring for our Relatives Coordinator when required.
  • Maintenance of monthly records, statistics and internal service requests; Team payroll, casual tracking, and check requisitions for program activities and purchases;
  • Support quarterly quality assurance reviews of Youth Homes;
  • Evening, Weekend and on-call work as required.

KNOWLEDGE & PERSONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Skill base should include a working knowledge of residential schools, sexual and physical abuse and child welfare issues as well as, mainstream and traditional Indigenous healing methods.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining an effective working relationship with Indigenous and non-Indigenous non-mandated organizations.
  • Skills include, a working knowledge of situations facing Indigenous children and families, extensive knowledge of community resources and the application of educational materials to practical situations.
  • Strong understanding of community capacity building models of practice.
  • Strong motivational and leadership skills.
  • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with staff, other agencies and the general public.
  • Community service orientated to effectively meet needs in a timely conscientious manner.
  • A team player/facilitator in order to encourage an environment that fosters effective results in teams.
  • Respectful in order to engage people and build helping relationships.
  • Flexible in order to respond effectively and positively in diverse relationships.
  • Confident and positive in order to engage families in the helping relationship process or in order to support, motivate and encourage others to make positive choices.
  • Maintain high level of independence and self-initiative.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and basic skills in database, email, and social media;
  • Understanding of Indigenous customs, experience, traditions and values is an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License and access to a vehicle required
