Classification: Full-Time Term June 2024-June 2028

Location: Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre 445 King Street Truth and Reconciliation site

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY: 

The role of the Community Convener will be to lead the Main Street Area Action plan (“the Plan”), facilitate and nurture connections, collaboration, and communication among stakeholders within the area to advance the plan’s shared objectives. The Convenor will organize meetings, events and activities (including workshops, and social gatherings) as well as be responsible for developing a budget for implementing the plan. The Convener may serve as the public face of the community, representing its interests to external stakeholders such as the City of Winnipeg, partners, or the media.

The Main Street Area Action plan is a community led plan formed by over 130 community stakeholders to support the revitalization of the Main and Higgins, Thunderbird house and surround areas.  The plan is developed, and the coordinator’s role will be to action the plan and move it forward while bringing all those who call the area home, work, or community the opportunity to get involved.

Knowledge/Qualifications:

  • Diploma in human/ social services, City Planning, Community development or related field would be an asset. A combination of education, training, volunteerism and lived experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with people who have experienced trauma, effects of colonization and residential schools with sensitivity utilizing a strength-based approach.
  • Knowledge and/or lived experience of issues impacting homelessness, mental health and addiction.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in Truth and Reconciliation calls to action, UNDRIP, MMIWG calls to justice.
  • Knowledge of utilizing a gender-based plus analysis inclusive of 2SLGBTQQIA+ Women and Girls
  • Demonstrated wisdom with incorporating Indigenous culture, protocols, and practices into programs and services.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering successful training sessions, facilitating meetings as well as developing and implementing organizational procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, energize and supervise, including the ability to coordinate many people with varying skills, abilities, and life experience.
  • Ability to accept and respond to constructive criticism and feedback in a cooperative and respectful manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Strong computer technology skills, including use of Microsoft office: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Must provide Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry and Prior Contact Checks.
