Position: Youth Mentor
Classification: Casual

Background: The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre is seeking individuals for casual Youth Mentor positions within our 5 Youth Care Homes. Our homes provide, culturally appropriate programming and work with birth families, CFS-mandated agencies, and other collaterals to provide wrap-around support, care planning, and skill development of youth in areas of violence prevention, healthy relationships, education, and leadership by using strength based, Indigenous culture and trauma informed practices.
5 Youth Care Homes (group care) – Please specify which home you’re interested in when applying.
- Luke’s Place: 6 beds for boys 11–14 years of age
- Isobel’s Place: 12 beds for pregnant girls and transgender teens 14-17 years of age
- Circle of Care: 6 30 day emergency beds specifically used by ANCR for children 0-10 years of age
- Honoring the Spirit of our Little Sisters: 6 bed specialized home for sexually exploited girls and transgender teens 13-17 years of age
- Hands of Mother Earth: 6 bed rural healing lodge for sexually exploited girls and transgender teens 13 – 17 year of age
Qualifications:
- Child & Youth Care Diploma or acceptable equivalent and related experience.
- Experiential applicants are encouraged to apply.
- Residential Care experience would be an asset.
- Ability to support Caseload and Healing Plans
- Ability to support/supervision to children/youth.
- Must have the ability to work cooperatively with others and contribute as a team member.
- Ability to work under stressful situations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of Indigenous values and community issues.
- Willing to work within a harm reduction framework.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License and access to vehicle would be an asset.
